Archenemies Review
Archenemies by Marissa Meyer
Review by Antares
Honestly, I felt something different for the first book, but that doesn't mean Archenemies is bad, it's a five star from me. I just think Renegades had me dying to know what will happen next while Archenemies has me murdering to know what happens next.
There was a splendid development in Nova. She didn't become non-anarchist. She's still a villain according to her mind and the Anarchists. But definitely softer than before. I would be lying if I said I didn't feel second hand guilt throughout Archenemies, especially every time I was in Adrien's head.
I had grown to like Callum, Oscar, Ruby, Hugh, Max and many more. Even all the anarchists, especially the Puppeteer. Although, I am having a bad feeling about Ace. I don't want to like Hugh or Simon or the rest of the Council, but they're awesome, lovable characters and I feel like Nova and I are missing a very important part about her childhood, I know it.
While the story is mostly action and young-adult, the minor aspects of comedy are gold.
"Did you kill her? Did you murder her because… because she stole your balloon ?"
Yes, Adrien, because that's what people do. (I'm being sarcastic.) Adrien has amused me quite a lot in Archenemies.
He was just kidding. A real relationship could totally work. He would make it work.
And the more I learn about Adrien and his personal life — which includes Hugh and Simon — the more I believe he is a cinnamon roll. It wouldn't scare me if his secret came out.
Whereas Nova had me worrying throughout the entire book. Everything she did made me pray she doesn't get caught. I need Nova's secret to be safe, but I also want everyone, especially Adrien, to know. Weird, right?
The chemistry between Adrien and Nova didn't help that they have secrets. I really ship them.
He chuckled. "It’s nothing like my marker."
"Don’t argue with me."
His smile broadened.
His smile broadened.
It would break tradition if the author doesn't put one of my favourite characters in danger. So believe me when I say I screamed in the scene with Max, Nightmare and Frostbite and her team. No spoilers, I promise.
Sadly, I cannot marvel enough at how much I like this series. Archenemies did not disappoint me at all, however it just raised my expectations for Supernova.
